Now in its seventh season, this annual concert at the Apollo celebrates the best of today’s African music scene. This year’s concert spotlights the continent’s globally influential trends in dance music.



Patoranking is an award-winning Nigerian dancehall artist who has created his own unique sound of Dancehall, Reggae, and Afrobeat combined with patois flair. Patoranking has collaborated with some of Africa’s most respected contemporary artists such as Roc Nation’s Tiwa Savage, Ghanaian favorites Sarkodie and Bisa Kdei, and Timaya, one of Africa’s other top Dancehall artists.


Buffalo Souljah

Buffalo Souljah, from Zimbabwe, is an award-winning Dancehall and Reggae recording artist, songwriter and label owner now based in South Africa. He got his first break working with Ghanaian artist Kweku a.k.a. Instinct. He has gone on to win many accolades and awards, performing at prestigious venues across the African continent as well as at the White House and contributing to the One Campaign Project for agricultural awareness in Africa, as part of Bono’s ONE org. He is one of the undisputed Kings of African Dancehall music.


Seyi Shay

Soulful singer, acclaimed songwriter, and charismatic performer Deborah Oluwa-Seyi Joshua (Seyi Shay), is carving out a dazzling place among the most accomplished performers of today. Seyi Shay was born in London to Nigerian parents and moved to Nigeria in 2011 where “Yolo Yolo”, released by Island Records, and the huge UK radio hit “Right Now” put her on an impressive career trajectory. Seyi Shay wrote and produced three songs for the Konami Game soundtrack “Crime Life” and is one of the leading female African artists who fuse Afrobeat, Rhythm and Blues, Reggae, and Dancehall.


Kaleta & Super Yamba Band

Afro-funksters Kaleta & Super Yamba Band are fronted by Afrobeat veteran Leon Ligan-Majek a.k.a. Kaleta. The singer, guitarist, and percussionist from Benin Republic spent his adolescent life in Lagos, Nigeria, where Afrobeat was born. Kaleta performed and toured the world with Fela Kuti and King Sunny Adé, along with Majek Fashek. Now based in New York City, Kaleta is backed up by Super Yamba Band who perform their take on the vintage, psychedelic sounds of his native country.
