Two Chinese ensembles present traditional music performed at village rituals, including temple fairs, weddings, funerals, and seasonal festivities—music that is rarely heard outside China today. These sounds—ritual music for shawms and percussion by the Li Family Daoist Band, and old tune traditional music with shadow puppets by the Zhang Family Band—can be traced back to the Han Dynasty, and are still deeply rooted in the daily life of Chinese villagers. Renowned pipa virtuoso Wu Man hosts and curates this event.
