Roopa Panesar is one of the finest sitar players to emerge from the Indian music scene in the United Kingdom. Her soulful and unique style of playing has received accolades from audiences and peers alike. She began training at the age of seven with sitar maestro Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE (a disciple of the late Ustad Vilayat Khan) and under the guidance of Pandit Arvind Parikh and Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. Roopa has collaborated with artists and ensembles from many different genres, including Mercury Prize winner Talvin Singh, Laura Wright, Dirk Brosse, the Belgian Symphony Orchestra, the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, the German Chamber Music Festival, and with music director Rob Lane for the soundtrack of the film ‘West is West’.
