The Sacred Sounds of Healing series is made possible with the generous support of Chandrika Tandon.

Join us for an engaging panel discussion led by Chandrika Tandon with scientists, artists, and cultural experts as we explore the intersection of science, sound, and song. Together, we will seek to uncover insights about where and how musical spiritual practices support the science of healing.

Participants:

Chandrika Tandon is a Grammy Award-winning artist, business leader, and philanthropist, with deep knowledge of Vedic traditions.

Lisa Sokolov is an experimental recording artist, composer, and professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and has sung at Jazz Festivals and concert halls all over the world. Her recordings have won many “Best of” citations. The originator of Embodied VoiceWork, a method used in Music Therapy, Arts Education, and Human potential work, Lisa’s book Embodied VoiceWork: Beyond Singing is published by Barcelona Publishers. She is a fifth-year cantorial student studying the ancient art of sacred Jewish improvisational singing.

Alexandre Tannous is an ethnomusicologist, sound researcher, and sound therapist, and the founder of the ResonantMind Collective. A Mellon Fellow from Columbia University, he holds four degrees in music and brings decades of experience as a performer, composer, conductor, educator, and lecturer on the transformative and therapeutic power of sound.

Dr. Concetta Tomaino is the Executive Director/co-founder of Institute for Music and Neurologic Function. Her work has advanced the state of the art and science of music therapy for individuals suffering the effects of brain trauma, including stroke, or who are afflicted with such degenerative neurological diseases as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other forms of dementia.

The Sacred Sounds of Healing series highlights artists, cross-cultural collaborations, and interactive ancillary events that celebrate and promote the transformative power of music and sounds from diverse spiritual and ethnic traditions. This initiative aims to heal and foster peace, joy, and unity through the universal language of music.
