After yet another electrifying DakhaBrakha show at Pioneer Works, we’re always happy to see the Ukrainian ethno-chaos quartet back in NYC! This time, they’ll be rocking the iconic Webster Hall. Don’t miss your chance to experience their original blend of traditional Ukrainian music and instruments with global influences, served up with a distinctly dramatic flair born of their drama and art training at the DAKH Center of Contemporary Art in Kyiv. This will mark the fourth time WMI has had the pleasure of presenting DakhaBrakha.

DakhaBrakha (meaning “give and take”) is a quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine, that was created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art by the avant-garde Theater Director Vladyslav Troitskyi. Originally experimenting with Ukrainian folk music, the foursome then added rhythms from surrounding countries and around the globe into their music, thus creating a style they describe as “ethno-chaos”; an energetic trans-national mix based on Ukrainian traditions and infused with the band’s theatrical roots.

“The group mixes everything from punk-pop to traditional Ukrainian songs in cool yet beguiling textures, often with the close harmonies usually associated with Balkan music. But it’s really the live shows that take DakhaBrakha beyond mere curiosity to utter brilliance.” — NPR
