This female quartet from Galicia, Spain, takes its name from the Gallego word for a hidden pocket beneath a Galician folk dancer’s costume, and as the moniker would suggest, they carry the Celtic heritage of the region with them into the present. They interweave modern intricate polyphonic vocals and synthesizers with acoustic instruments and the traditional beats of the pandereteiras, the local female tambourine players. Fellow Galician Ariel Ninas, an award-winning hurdy-gurdy player, will kick off the show with his unique blend of folk melodies and punk energy.

The WOMEN’S VOICES series celebrates the role that female artists play in the preservation and promotion of their respective cultures and traditions.
