Hamid Rahmanian is a New York–based Iranian multi-disciplinary artist, 2014 Guggenheim Fellow, and creator of ‘Song of the North’ – a mesmerizing large-scale, cinematic performance combining the manual art of shadow puppetry and projected animation. The narrative, adapted from the Shahnameh (the Persian Book of Kings), tells the courageous tale of Princess Manijeh who defies her powerful father to rescue her beloved and avert war between rival kingdoms. Joining Hamid in conversation will be Loga Ramin Torkian (NIYAZ, Axiom of Choice), a celebrated Iranian multi-instrumentalist and composer who created the original score for the production. WMI will be presenting ‘Song of the North’ on March 24-26 at Peter Norton Symphony Space.
WMI PLUS and WMI PLUS At Home experiences are supported by a grant from Con Edison and world music lovers like you. We thank you!
