WMI Plus At Home - Celebrating Women's History Month with Miriam Alhajli and Catalina Maria Johnson

WMI PLUS At Home experiences bring music from around the world into the comfort of your home. Renowned artists share their lives, instruments, and stories from their personal environments, bringing an intimacy and uniqueness to each event. These talks are led by fellow musicians, journalists, and ethnomusicologists. Live captioning will be provided during the event.

We are thrilled to provide these events for FREE. If you can donate any amount while registering for this event, it will help us keep the music playing. Thank you!

Join us for a special WMI Plus At Home Women’s History Month session with Miriam Elhajli and journalist and radio host of Beat Latino, Catalina Maria Johnson, on Monday, March 16, 6 PM EST.

Miriam Elhajli is a singer-improviser and musicologist of Venezuelan and Moroccan heritage, based in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Active in New York City’s avant-garde and folkloric scenes, she has performed with notable artists and at prestigious venues like Lincoln Center and The Whitney Museum, as well as in more intimate settings.

Elhajli is involved in various local punk, cumbia, and noise bands and is set to release her fifth album on her label, Numina Records, which focuses on women’s music and poetics. Additionally, she works as a researcher at The Association for Cultural Equity and teaches at Citylore, a Manhattan non-profit dedicated to preserving folklore and oral histories.
