WMI Plus At Home - Sofía Rei, Daymé Arocena, and Mireya Ramos with JC Maillard
WMI PLUS At Home experiences bring music from around the world into the comfort of your home. Renowned artists share their lives, instruments, and stories from their personal environments, bringing an intimacy and uniqueness to each event. These talks are led by fellow musicians, journalists, and ethnomusicologists. Live captioning will be provided during the event.
We are thrilled to provide these events for FREE. If you are able to make a donation of any amount while registering for this event, it will help us to keep the music playing. THANK YOU!
Friday, October 4, 2024 – 6 PM EDT

Argentinian vocalist, composer, and producer Sofía Rei will be featured in a WMI Plus At Home event to discuss ‘Folk & Futurism’ – a project that explores the convergence of traditional Latin American folk culture with contemporary music genres and digital technologies. Joining Sofía will be Latin Grammy Award-winning vocalist and violinist Mireya Ramos, founder of Flor de Toloache – NYC’s only all-female mariachi band, and Grammy-Award nominated and Juno Award-winning Afro-Cuban artist Daymé Arocena – two of the six guest artists to appear as part of the live performance of ‘Folk & Futurism’ on Oct 10 at (le) poisson rouge. Also joining will be the project’s producer/co-musical director French singer/songwriter JC Maillard.
