Join extraordinary Cuban composer and vocalist Daymé Arocena in conversation with award-winning music writer and author Ned Sublette as part of our ongoing online series, WMI Plus At Home. Daymé will welcome us into her studio and home and will share music and stories about her musical journey of being schooled in a western classical and choir tradition, while being raised in a deeply rooted Afro-Cuban musical and religious home. Daymé will also answer attendee questions at the end of the session. Today, Daymé is an international icon; a singer, composer, and choir director who seamlessly embodies Cuba’s intertwined musical currents: Western classical tradition, jazz, and the deep reservoir of Afro-Cuban sounds.
