WMI Plus At Home - Wu Man

WMI PLUS At Home experiences bring music from around the world into the comfort of your home. Renowned artists share their lives, instruments, and stories from their personal environments, bringing an intimacy and uniqueness to each event. These talks are led by fellow musicians, journalists, and ethnomusicologists. Live captioning will be provided during the event.

We are thrilled to provide these events for FREE. If you are able to make a donation of any amount while registering for this event, it will help us to keep the music playing. THANK YOU!

Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with Wu Man in conversation with Steven Schick!

Recognized as the world’s premier pipa virtuoso and ambassador of Chinese music, Wu Man is a soloist, educator, and composer who gives her lute-like instrument a new role in both traditional and contemporary music. Her work spans various genres, including solo performances, concertos, and collaborations with ensembles like the Kronos Quartet, and she is a founding member of the Silkroad Ensemble.

The New Yorker has hailed percussionist, conductor, and author Steven Schick as “one of our supreme living virtuosos, not just of percussion but of any instrument.” He has championed contemporary percussion music by commissioning or premiering more than one hundred and fifty new works, the most important of which have become core repertory for solo percussion. Schick was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in 2014.
